Needle felting is a creative craft that uses a specially designed felting needle to shape and sculpt wool into pictures, decorations and 3D creations. It is a relaxing and rewarding activity that encourages creativity, concentration and fine motor skill development.

Who are the workshops suitable for?

Workshops are suitable for children aged 6 and over and can be adapted to suit a wide range of ages, abilities, interests and learning styles.
While children aged 6+ are welcome to attend, needle felting is generally best suited to children aged 10 and over, who typically have the patience, dexterity and concentration needed to work more independently and achieve more detailed results.
Needle felting uses a specialist felting needle, which is very sharp, so children aged 6 will need close parental supervision throughout the session. At this age, children are often more interested in exploring the texture and feel of the wool, learning basic techniques and enjoying the creative process than completing a finished piece independently.
Parents of younger participants should expect to be more hands-on and will often help to complete or finish their child's project. At age 6, children are unlikely to complete a piece independently within the workshop time, and many finished pieces are the result of a collaborative effort between child and parent.
However, only the child place needs to be paid for. Accompanying adults attend free of charge, even if they are helping their child complete their piece. An additional fee only applies if an adult wishes to create a separate project of their own.

Do children need any previous experience?

No. Workshops are suitable for complete beginners as well as children who have tried needle felting before. Guidance is provided throughout, with activities tailored to the group's experience level.

Are workshops suitable for neurodivergent children?

Yes. As both a qualified teacher and home-educating parent of neurodivergent children, I understand that every child learns differently. Workshops are designed to be flexible, supportive and responsive to individual needs, allowing children to participate in a way that feels comfortable for them.

What types of projects can children make?

Children can create both 2D and 3D felted pieces. Projects can be themed around nature, seasons, favourite characters, artists, curriculum topics or the interests of your group.

How long does a workshop last?

Workshop length can be tailored to your group's needs. Most sessions typically last between 1.5 and 3 hours, depending on the age of participants and the complexity of the project.

Do you provide all materials and equipment?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All wool, needles, felting mats and other materials are provided. If they want to frame their pieces, then there is an additional optional charge of £5. Participants simply need a suitable workspace and a willingness to get creative.

Where do workshops take place?

Workshops take place at your chosen venue or meeting location. Travel within a 10-mile radius is included, although additional mileage charges may apply for locations further away. I do have a location we can use in Marlow, Bucks, but there is an additional charge as I need to hire it.

Is needle felting safe for children?

Yes. Needle felting is a safe craft activity when used correctly and under appropriate supervision. We do use a specialist felting needle, which is very sharp, so children must be able to follow safety instructions throughout the workshop.
The main risk is an occasional finger prick, which is usually minor. Participants are shown how to use the needle safely before they begin, and all felting needles are cleaned with antibacterial wipes before each workshop.
Children aged 6 should be closely supervised by a parent or carer at all times.

Can workshops be linked to a learning topic?

Absolutely. Workshops can be planned around educational topics, nature studies, seasonal themes, artists, historical periods, books, or other areas of interest being explored by your group.

Yes. Some groups prefer clear step-by-step guidance with a planned outcome, while others enjoy a more child-led, exploratory approach. Workshops can be adapted to suit your preferred style.

How much do workshops cost?

Workshop prices are tailored to each group and depend on factors such as group size, location, session length and project choice.
I understand that many home-educating families work within a budget, and I aim to keep workshops as accessible as possible while ensuring that all materials, preparation and teaching time are fully covered.
As a guide, home education workshops are typically priced from £15 per child, with reduced rates available for siblings attending the same session.

Do parents/carers need to stay during the session?

Yes. Workshops are designed for children and adults to attend together, and parents or carers are required to remain with their children throughout the session.

Do adults have to pay to attend?

Accepted Answer

No. Parents and carers can attend free of charge when accompanying a participating child. If an adult would also like to create their own needle-felted project, an additional participant fee will apply to cover materials and equipment.
